The past week Stef Biagioni and Alessandro Biagioni attended the International Banzai Cup, Berlin 23rd -24th Sept in Germany, Berlin 2023. The idea was to take a team from 4Ways Dojo for as little as R36 000.00 to take part in a major International event that is Sanctioned by WKF (Karate Olympic body) in a space of a long weekend, to get exposure and game time on the European circuit.
The Banzai Cup International attracted moe than 20 countries, 179 clubs, 1229 entries and 1000 competitors. Ages from 10 years to Veterans and all belt levels.
Alessandro took part in the Senior Kata Division with 27 competitors in his draw. He had 2 rounds of Kata, of which he just lasted out by a small margin to advance him to the 3rd round.
Alessandro’s kumite division U75 Kg, had him doing 5 rounds which saw him in the repo- charge for bronze and unfortunately losing and placing Alessandro 7th place in total for kumite.
Lastly; Shihan Stef Biagioni competed in the Masters + 40 years Kata division.
He drew a difficult pool with the hot favourite Germany to win but Stef managed to tie him with the same point performing Suparinpei Kata in the semi-finals. A tiebreaker kata had to be performed again between the two athletes, where Stef eventually won doing Ohan Kata and therefore qualifying for the final.
In the final Stef Biagioni won a gold medal beating Poland with Anan Kata.
This is Shihan Stef Biagioni s 3rd Championship Title for the International Banzai Cup winning it in 2014; 2018 and now in 2023 !!
